Seetag/Day at Sea 3.3 auf der/on CARNIVAL SPIRIT

Wir gehen zum Mittagessen in den Empire Room.



We went for lunch to the Empire Room.

I am a soup lover... but again a soup something was missing.



Ich bin nun mal Suppenkasper... ich liebe Suppen... aber schon wieder eine Suppe, der irgendwie der Pepp fehlt.

Das wäre in meinen Augen mehr Ciabatta als Foccacia... Aber Bruno fand es lecker...



For me it looked more like Ciabatta but Foccacia... But Bruno liked it...

My spare-ribs were also very good. The only sad event: the Captain went from table to table. Later someone told me to apology with each guest personally for the incidents in Ensenada. For us he had only a nod while he had short conversations with other tables. When I said "Bongiorno" I did not get any reaction... If the Captain was not reactiong how can I expect that his employees would react???



Meine Spare-Ribs waren auch gut. Das einzige, was schade ist: der Kapitän geht von Tisch zu Tisch. Wie man mir hinterher erzählt, um sich bei jedem Gast persönlich, für die Ereignisse in Ensenada zu entschuldigen. Uns nickt er nur zu und mit den anderen Tischen führt er kurze Gespräche. Auf ein "Bongiorno" bekomme ich keine Reaktion... Wenn der Kapitän nicht reagiert, wie sollen dann seine Untergebenen reagieren???

Um 14.00 Uhr beginnt der Vortrag von Michele.



At 14.00 hrs the presentation of Michele started.

Today she presented how the vulcanoes and the islands were formed.



Heute präsentiert Michele die Entstehungsgeschichte der Vulkane vor.

Es sind sehr anspruchsvolle Vorträge, die wir eigentlich in der Form nur von Holland America kennen.



They were quite ambitious presentations which we only knew from Holland America.





Bruno was very excited and later I had to follow his explainations what Michele all told. But there was no need. It was recorded and broadcasted in the onboard-TV.



Bruno ist auf jeden Fall ganz begeistert und ich muss mir alles anhören, was Michele erläutert hat. Dabei wäre das gar nicht nötig. Es wurde aufgezeichnet und im Bordfernsehen übertragen.

Zunächst einmal für Leute wie mich: Ich habe nämlich den Vortrag einfach im Bett bei offener Balkontür verschlafen, weil ich ja nicht so ein Vulkanfreund bin, wie er... und für die nachfolgende Reise: weil ja dort erst die Hawaii-Runde anfängt, können sie ja tagsüber nicht an solchen Vorträgen teilnehmen. Deswegen wurden alle Präsentationen aufgezeichnet und werden entsprechend im Bordfernsehen gezeigt, damit sich auch die nächsten Gäste bestens informieren können, bevor sie an Land gehen.



For people like me: I stayed in bed and had a nap with open balcony door during the presentation as I am not the vulcano freak like him... and for the next voyage: because they start first with the Hawai'ian islands the guests cannot attend the presentation during the day time. So all presentations were recorded and will be broadcasted later to keep the guests informed before they go ashore.

I went to the event other companies would name the Captain's Reception. But here you have to bring your own beverages with you.



Es geht zu dem, was bei anderen Gesellschaften der Kapitänsempfang wäre. Nur hier bringt jeder selbst seine Getränke mit.

Die Führungsoffiziere stehen nicht im Spalier und begrüßen die Gäste, die sich in einer Reihe aufgestellt haben. Allerdings gibt es hier auch keinen Fotografen, der Bilder vom Kapitän mit einem macht.



The Senior Officers were not standing in a line to welcome you. But there were not photographers to take pictures with you and the Captain either.

It was more like a cocktail-party. The reaction time with Princess was four days (after I showed up with my blanket and pillow in the lobby) und with NCL it was two hours. Hotel Director and Guest Relation Manager introduced themselves and asked me what they need to do to "turn me around"... I did not expected that Carnvial was so conservative that no gay guests were allowed on board??? Just a joke - I understood what they wanted to say... I wished I would have said: Buy me two tickets for PRIDE OF AMERICA, buy me two tickets from Hilo to Honolulu and re-book all my hotels and flight home... but it was neither the appropriate time or place to talk about such things. So I made the suggestion to meet again the following day which was agreed for 11.00 hrs.



Es läuft eher wie eine Cocktailparty ab. Die Reaktionszeit bei Princess lag bei vier Tagen (und erst dann als ich mit Kissen und Decke in der Lobby erschienen bin) und bei NCL bei zwei Stunden. Hoteldirektor und Guest Relation Manager stellen sich kurz vor und fragen nach, was sie tun müssten, um mich "umzudrehen"... Ist das Schiff so konservativ, dass keine schwulen Gäste zugelassen sind??? Schon gut - ich habe ja richtig verstanden... Am liebsten hätte ich geantwortet: Kauft mir zwei Tickets für die PRIDE OF AMERICA, besorgt mir zwei Flüge von Hilo nach Honolulu und bucht meine Hotels und Flüge um... aber da das weder der richtige Ort noch der richtige Rahmen ist, um so etwas zu besprechen, schlage ich vor, dass man sich morgen trifft. Wir einigen uns auf 11.00 Uhr.

Beim Abendessen bekommen heute einer der hinteren Tische am Heck zugeteilt. Allerdings stellen wir fest, dass es am Heck weitaus kälter ist, als im Eingangsbereich.



For dinner we got this night a table in the aft. But we found out that those more much colder than those in the front.

Noel was the so-called Team Head Waiter... Our request to have ice water with no ice he celebrated to improve our mood.



Noel ist der sog. Team Head Waiter... im Deutschen würde ich mal auf Hauptkellner tippen... Unseren Wunsch, dass wir Eiswasser ohne Eis wollen, zelebriert er, um die Stimmung aufzuheitern.

Die Brotsorten wechseln jeden Abend.



They changed the bread every night.

Jovan served the wine like it supposed to be served. Even it were the left-overs from the last night it was served as they would have opened a new bottle.



Jovan serviert so den Wein, wie es sich gehört. Auch wenn es sich ja um die Reste von gestern Abend handelt, wird er so serviert, als ob eine frische Flasche geöffnet worden wäre.

Ich bin zwar nicht der Weintrinker, aber es tat gut, das einfach zu sehen. Übrigen ist Jovan der Hilfskellner des Hilfskellners... Anders kann ich die Position im Deutschen nicht beschreiben. Wie beschrieben: eine 3-er-Konstellation kannte ich bislang noch nicht.



I am not the winedrinker but it was good to see this. By the way Jovan was the assistent of the assistent waiter... I cannot describe this position in another way. As described: the constellation of 3 we never had this before.

But the soup... no salt and no pepper could help to make this nicer... no idea what they were doing with them...



Tja die Suppe... da halfen auch Salz und Pfeffer nichts mehr... keine Ahnung, was die mit denen immer machen...

Da wir immer eine sog. Booth bekommen, kann immer nur einer am Tisch korrekt bedient werden. Aber das ist in Ordnung, solange sie sich Mühe geben, uns einen hervorragenden Service zu geben.



As we always got a booth you can serve only from side correctly. But that was fine as long as they tried to give us an outstanding service.

Someone was very happy...

You see with the lobster that it should be formal night. But none with Carnival was very really interested. You can leave your jacket and tie home. Compared to other guests I still was overdressed wearing my slacks and a long-sleeves business shirt.



Am Hummer sieht man, dass eigentlich formelle Nacht ist. Aber so genau interessiert es keinen bei Carnival. Auf jeden Fall kann man Jacket und Krawatte zu Hause lassen. Mit Stoffhose und langärmigen Businesshemd war ich doch verglichen mit den anderen Gästen noch ziemlich overdressed.

Es gibt tatsächlich den Pfeffermühlenservice unaufgefordert. Etwas, was ich bei NCL sehr stark vermisse...



Without request you get the peppermill service. Something I really miss very much with NCL...

Tonight Tony introduced himself. He was the Maître in charge for the section on Deck 3. This was only open in the night. Breakfast and lunch you get only on Deck 2.



Heute Abend stellt sich Tony vor. Er ist der zuständige Maître für den Abschnitt auf Deck 3. Das ist allerdings nur abends geöffnet. Frühstück und Mittagessen findet immer auf Deck 2 statt.

Gestern Abend war die Situation anders: Da hatte ich ein leeres Glas und hätte gerne ein weiteres Glas gehabt, aber heute Abend haben sie schon sicherheitshalber ein 2. Glas positioniert, auch wenn ich gerade mal einen Schluck genommen hatte. Wie beschrieben: vorne ist es weitaus wärmer: da trinkt man ja auch mehr. Es hätte hier hinten so perfekt sein können, wenn es nicht so kalt gewesen wäre.



Last night the situation was totally different: there I had an empty glass and I wished to have another glass but tonight they had already another glass on stand-by even I just had one mouthful. As decribed: in the front it was warmer so you drink more. Here in the rear it could be so perfect if it would not be so cold.

Even the breadcrumps were removed.



Sogar die Brotkrümeln werden entfernt.

Kommen wir zum Dessert.



Let's move over to the dessert.

We really would love to have this for breakfast... it's so bad that they do not offer it on their breakfast menu.



So eine Früchteplatte hätten wir gerne zum Frühstück... Schade, dass sie nicht auf der Frühstückskarte steht.

Ich hatte einen zuckerfreien Kuchen bestellt... Ganz ehrlich... er ist bestimmt zuckerfrei, aber nicht fettfrei... Es lebe Holland America mit ihren Steviaprodukten... Insgesamt stellen wir aber fest, dass wohl das Niveau des Essens im Vergleich zu NCL und Royal Caribbean weitaus höher ist - gefühlt so in der Mitte zwischen denen und Princess, Holland America, Celebrity und Cunard... Vor allem seit dem sie das neue Geschirr haben, habe ich ja auch nicht mehr den Eindruck, dass es sich um eine Massenabfütterung im Altenheim handelt...



I ordered a sugar-free cake... Honestly... it was definately sugar-free but not fat-free... Long lives Holland America and their Steviaproducts... But generally we had the impression that the level of food was higher compared to NCL and Royal Caribbean - somewhere in the center between them and Princess, Holland America, Celebrity and Cunard... Especially since they have the new china I did not have no more the impression to be in a mass feed station in a nursery home...
