Tag/Day 0.B auf dem Weg zur/on the way to CARNIVAL PRIDE in Dover, England

Nach einem tollen Frühstück bei Bart und Jan geht es weiter. Aber hierher kommen wir gerne wieder. Richtig lecker wie damals als Kind: Brötchen mit Schokostreusel.



After a great breakfast with Bart and Jan, we continue. But we would love to come back here. Just as delicious as I was a child: rolls with chocolate sprinkles.









We have ferry tickets with Irish Ferries. We can go on standby earlier or later on the same day. But Brexit is thwarting our plans: passport controls are taking longer than ever before. Unfortunately, we are the first car that cannot find a place on the previous ferry. So we watch the loading of the last ferry, and Bruno takes care of the oil service, which reports on the display. We use the waiting time to try Dumon's stevia truffles. So the chocolate is good, but these truffles with stevia are too sweet for us. Even coffee to neutralize it doesn't help. We can't get that sweetness out of our mouths again. Since we have booked Club Class, we can drive on board first.



Wir haben Fährtickets mit Irish Ferries. Wir dürfen am gleichen Tag auf Standby früher oder später fahren. Aber der Brexit macht uns einen Strich durch die Rechnung: die Passkontrollen dauern so lange, wie noch nie zuvor. Wir sind leider das erste Auto, das keinen Platz mehr auf er vorherigen Fähre findet. So gucken wir beim Beladen der letzten Fähre zu und Bruno kümmert sich um den Ölservice, der sich auf der Anzeige meldet. Wir nutzen die Wartezeit um die Stevia-Trüffel von Dumon zu probieren. Also die Schokolade ist gut, aber diese Trüffel mit Stevia sind uns zu süß. Da hilft selbst ein Kaffee zum Neutralisieren nichts. Diese Süße bekommen wir nicht wieder aus dem Mund. Da wir Club Class gebucht haben, dürfen wir daher als erste an Bord fahren.

Hätten wir regulär umgebucht, wäre es richtig teuer geworden. Aber diese Lösung, dass man am selben Tag ggfls. früher kann, ist eine gute Lösung. Die EDV hat hier "Einzug" gehalten: ein schwarzer Filzstift. Auf zu Deck 5 rot.

Club Class is quite nice: a small buffet and free drinks. Something more intimate with USB ports. And, as I said: a place far forward to leave the ship.

Beim Einlaufen in Dover sehen wir die VIKING VENUS am Cruise Terminal. Und noch später beim Verlassen des Hafens.

We should be told later today how to proceed: either a shortened journey on CARNIVAL PRIDE or an alternative cruise from Southampton. So we walk along the seafront in Dover. The "most beautiful" graffiti on a public toilet. Great designed. And the seagulls can even fish. I spot seagull offspring right next to a mooring ring, and a fishing line that leads into the water is tied to it: clever birds.



Wir sollen heute im Laufe des Tages mitgeteilt bekommen, wie es weitergeht: entweder eine verkürzte Fahrt auf der CARNIVAL PRIDE oder eine alternative Kreuzfahrt ab Southampton. Wir laufen also in Dover an der Seepromenade lang. Das "schönste" Graffitti auf einer öffentlichen Toilette. Toll gestaltet. Und die Seemöwen können sogar fischen. Ich entdecke Seemövennachwuchs, das direkt an einem Festmacherring sich aufhält und daran ist eine Angelschnur festgebunden, die ins Wasser führt: Schlaue Vögel.

Wir haben uns im Premier Inn einquartiert. Sehr ärgerlich: obwohl ich sehr früh angefragt habe, ich bekomme kein Zimmer zur Seeseite sondern zur Straße mit dem ganzen LKW-Verkehr. Ich habe viele Monate vorher meinen Wunsch angegeben, aber mir wurde mitgeteilt, dass man den Wunsch eine Woche vorher wiederholen musste. Ansonsten ist es in Ordnung. Ich habe schon besser für den Preis gewohnt aber auch schon schlechter. Man muss immer daran denken, seinen Wagen für das Parken zu registrieren. Platz für die folgenden Nächte haben sie nicht. Also bleibt es bei der Nacht. Es ist Ferienanfang in Großbritannien.



We checked into the Premier Inn. Very annoying: although I asked very early, I don't get a room on the seaside but on the street with all the truck traffic. I made my request many months in advance but was told that the proposal had to be repeated a week. Otherwise, it's okay. I've had better for the price, but I've also had worse. One must never forget to register one's car for parking. They need more rooms for the following nights. So it stays at night. It's the start of the holiday season in Britain.

We will go to the hotel for the coming night and arrange our arrival. They recommend the Cullins Yard Pub restaurant for dinner. That tip was confirmed by a former schoolmate who constantly sailed in the English Channel. I take the opportunity to eat mussels. This small bowl of broth with the lemon could taste better. Otherwise, everything is delicious. I can't manage dessert, but it must be good when Bruno eats everything so fast that I can't taste it. For cruisers like us, it's the place to be.



Wir gehen schon mal in das Hotel für die kommende Nacht und sprechen dort unsere Anreise ab. Man empfiehlt uns das Pub-Restaurant Cullins Yard zum Abendessen. Das ist ein schöner Tipp und wird von einem ehemaligen Schulkameraden bestätigt, der ständig im Ärmelkanal mit seinem Segelboot unterwegs ist. Ich nutze die Gelegenheit Muscheln zu essen. Nur diese kleine Schale Brühe mit der Zitrone schmeckt nicht besonders. Ansonsten ist alles sehr lecker. Ich schaffe kein Dessert, aber es muss wohl gut sein, wenn Bruno alles so schnell aufisst, dass ich nicht mal mehr probieren kann. Für Kreuzfahrer wie uns ist es das richtige Restaurant.

In Miami ist es ja noch Nachmittag, als endlich die Nachricht kommt: Die Reise beginnt am Montag. Es entfallen die schottischen Häfen. Wir bekommen 1/3 des Reisepreises zurück. Außerdem gibt es 500 USD Bordguthaben. Später erfahren wir, dass es sogar rückzahlbares Bordguthaben ist. Wir bekommen für jede Nacht an Land ein Budget für 300 USD für die Übernachttung und 200 USD für das Essen. Viele sind in London, da dürfte das Budget knapp werden. Wir bleiben auf dem Land und daher sehr großzügig: einziges Problem: Dover ist so gut wie ausgebucht und daher kommt man mit dem Budget auch nicht weit. Aber jetzt können wir bis Montag planen und gehen davon aus, dass wir den 2. Teil der Reise in der irischen See mit Belfast, Holyhead und Cobh wie geplant abfahren können.



It's still afternoon in Miami when the news finally comes: The voyage begins on Monday. There are no Scottish ports. We get 1/3 of the travel price back. There is also a 500 USD onboard credit. Later we learn that it is even refundable onboard credit. We get a budget of 300 USD for lodging and 200 USD for food for each night ashore. Many are in London, England, so the budget will likely be tight. We stay in the country and are therefore very generous: the only problem is that Dover is almost fully booked, so you don't get very far with the budget. But now we can plan until Monday and assume we can sail the 2nd part of the Irish Sea voyage with Belfast, Northern Ireland, Holyhead, Wales, and Cobh, Ireland, as planned.
