Tag/Day 0.C auf dem Weg zur/on the way to CARNIVAL PRIDE (statt/instead of Tag/Day 1 auf der/on CARNIVAL PRIDE) in Dover, England

Morgens kommt die SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE rein.



SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE comes in in the morning.

Then back to the hotel for breakfast. It is cheap. But it could be more tasty. It's enough for us to survive the day. For me, there is no lactose-free milk. It was nice to taste Lyle's Golden Syrup again: childhood memories. And somehow, Marmite "magically" attracts me. It still tastes disgusting. I don't know why I keep going back to it every time. It was an act of desperation.



Dann geht es zurück ins Hotel zum Frühstück. Es ist günstig. Aber so richtig lecker ist es nicht. Es reicht aus, damit wir den Tag überleben. Für mich gibt es keine laktosefreie Milch. Schön war mal wieder Lyle's Zuckerrübensirup zu schmecken: Kindheitserinnerungen. Und irgendwie zieht mich Marmite "magisch" an. Es schmeckt immer noch ekelhaft. Ich weiß nicht warum ich jedes Mal immer wieder da zugreife. Es war wohl ein Verzweiflungstat.

Bis mittags bleiben wir hier und dann fahren wir zum Mittagessen. Keine Ahnung, wie das Bild entstanden ist. Ich ärgere mich über die vielen Geisterfahrer.



We stay here until noon, and then we drive to lunch. I am still determining how the picture was taken. I am annoyed by the many wrong-way drivers.

OCEAN PRINCESS 2015: due to the closure of the channel tunnel, we have to get on a ferry until the afternoon. We stopped at the Marquis of Grandby in Alkham, England, for lunch and tea. We were very excited at the time. So this is the ideal place for us to spend lunchtime here. And again, there are mussels for me. Even better than yesterday. Yummy. Unfortunately, they don't have a room for us either.



OCEAN PRINCESS 2015: aufgrund der Sperrung des Eurotunnels müssen wir bis nachmittags auf eine Fähre fahren. Zum Mittagessen und zur Tea-Time kehrten wir ins Marquis of Grandby in Alkham ein. Wir waren damals sehr begeistert. Deswegen ist das der ideale Ort, damit wir hier die Mittagszeit verbringen. Und wieder gibt es Muscheln für mich. Noch besser als gestern. Lecker. Sie haben leider auch für uns kein Zimmer mehr da.

Heute Nacht bleiben wir im Best Western Premier Dover Marina und Spa. Wir hätten schon mal hier übernachten sollen, aber damals waren sie insolvent. Unter neuem Management sind wir überrascht. Eine schöne Lage, aber wahnsinnig alt. Wir müssen das gesamte Gepäck sowieso mitnehmen, weil wir umpacken müssen. Aber mit einem einzigen Mini-Lift, das auch vom Personal für den Transport von einer Etage mitgenutzt wird, macht es keinen Spaß. Bruno nimmt daher seine Fitness-Klamotten raus und stellt fest: das Fitnessstudio ist mehr schein als sein. Der Spa hat nur ein Jacuzzi und an der Rezeption haben schon Riesenfamilien nach Zugang gefragt. Wir haben in der Reservierungsanfrage um zwei Einzelbetten bzw. zwei Einzeldecken gebeten. Sie wissen nichts davon und fragen nach, warum wir es nicht in der Reservierung angefragt hätten. Jetzt finden sie es, aber sie können uns kein anderes Zimmer mehr geben. Wir müssen noch drei Mal daran erinnern, dass wir noch die 2. Decke bekommen. Im Bad frage ich mich allerdings: warum baut man eine Handtuchheizung ein, die schmaler ist, als die Handtücher, die man nutzt?



Tonight we are staying at the Best Western Premier Dover Marina and Spa. We should have visited here before, but they were bankrupt then. Under new management, we are surprised — a beautiful location but exceptionally old. We must take all our luggage with us anyway because we must repack. But with a single mini-elevator, which is also used by the staff to transport one floor, it's no fun. Bruno, therefore, takes off his fitness clothes and realizes: the gym is more of an illusion than it is. The spa has only one jacuzzi, and huge families have requested access at the front desk. We asked for two single beds or two single duvets in the reservation request. They don't know about it and ask why we didn't ask for it in the reservation. Now they find it, but they can't give us another room. We must remind them three more times that we still need to get the 2nd duvet. In the bathroom, however, I ask myself: why do you install a narrower towel heater than the towels you use?

We drive up to the White Cliffs. As usual with National Trust, we have to pay for parking. But unfortunately, I can't take pictures from here in the morning because access is closed at night. We use our visit to the visitor center for a break. A cheese scone is a must. I observe the operations in the ferry port. I'm not looking forward to the return trip. My recycled wool blankets that I used to buy from National Trust for 12.50 GBP are now 20.00 GBP. They're not that pretty, either. Another viewing platform is above the castle, but the gate is closed at night.



Wir fahren kurz zu den Kreidefelsen hoch. Wie bei National Trust üblich müssen wir für das Parken bezahlen. Aber von hier kann ich leider morgens nicht fotografieren, weil nachts der Zugang gesperrt ist. Wir nutzen unseren Besuch im Besucherzentrum für eine Pause. Ein Käsescone muss sein. Ich beobachte den Betrieb im Fährhafen. Auf die Rückfahrt freue ich mich schon mal nicht. Meine recycleten Wolldecken, die ich früher für 12,50 GBP bei National Trust gekauft habe, kosten jetzt 20,00 GBP. So schön sind sie auch nicht. Es gibt noch eine Aussichtsplattform überhalb der Burg, aber da weiß ich, dass nachts das Tor auch geschlossen ist.

Wir laufen durch Dover. Dort haben wir Angst in einem Kunstwerk nass zu werden, aber andere gehen bei diesem Wetter auch im Meer schwimmen. Ein Trafohäuschen in Regenbogenfarben warnt vor der Todesgefahr, die von den Regenbogenfarben ausgeht...

Wir sehen der SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE beim Auslaufen zu.

In meiner Kindheit konnte man sehr gut in Großbritannien chinesich essen. Aber es gibt kaum noch China-Restaurants, die einen Tischservice anbieten. Die meisten bieten nur noch einen Mitnahmeservice an. Gem. Suchmachinen soll es hier einen Tischservice geben, aber der Weg war vergebens. Die Angaben in den Suchmaschinen sind mehr aktuell.



As a child, Chinese was excellent to eat in the UK. But there are only a few Chinese restaurants that offer table service. Most only provide a takeaway service. According to search engines, there is supposed to be a table service here, but the path was unsuccessful. The information in the search engines is more up-to-date.



Im nepalesischen Restaurant Momo Hub gibt es noch Tischservice. Es fragt sich nur welcher. Alles wird in Plastik und Mitnahmebehälter serviert. Kein geeigneter Ort für einen romatischen Hochzeitsantrag. Die Teigtaschen schmecken nicht schlecht. Die Saucen passen irgendwie nicht. In der Brühe werden die Teigtaschen erhitzt: schmeckt also wie bei meiner Mutter. Beim gebratenen Reis merken wir: Nepal ist zwischen China und Indien. Wir schmecken nicht so richtig raus, ob es uns schmecken sollte. Aber wir ärgern uns nicht. Schließlich sind wir Gäste von Carnival.



Table service is still available at the Nepalese restaurant Momo Hub. The only question is which one. Everything is served in plastic and takeaway containers. Not a suitable place for a romantic wedding proposal. The dumplings taste good. The sauces need to match. The dumplings are heated in the broth: tastes like my mother's. With the fried rice, we notice: Nepal is between China and India. Should we like it? But we're not upset. After all, we are guests of Carnival.

I need something for my midnite snack I was getting on board today. So we quickly walk past M&S Foodhall, and I'll get something for later.



Ich brauche noch etwas für meinen Midnite-Snack, den ich an Bord heute bekommen würde. So laufen wir schnell bei M&S Foodhall vorbei und ich gehe mir noch eine Kleinigkeit für später holen.
