Originally it was planned that we would tender, but later it was decided that we would dock at the pier. However, this is very far out and can only be left with a shuttle bus.



Ursprünglich war geplant, dass wir tendern, aber später wurde doch festgelegt, dass wir am Pier anlegen. Dieser ist jedoch sehr weit draußen und darf nur mit einem Shuttlebus verlassen werden.









Es geht zum Frühstück: ich habe das Broken Egg Sandwich entdeckt: lecker - es ich habe es ohne Käse bestellt und nur eine Hälfte. English Breakfast Tea kostet extra. Aber normaler Lipton Tee ist kostenlos. Den bereite ich mir zum frischgebrühten Eistee zu. Was macht ein Aschenbecher auf dem Tisch? Wir erfahren jedoch, dass es kein Aschenbecher ist, sondern ein Karaffenuntersetzer.



It's for breakfast: I discovered the Broken Egg Sandwich: delicious - I ordered it without cheese and only a half. English breakfast tea costs extra. But regular Lipton tea is complimentary. I prepare it with freshly brewed iced tea. What is an ashtray doing on the table? However, we learn it is not an ashtray but a carafe coaster.

We note the port agent again. We are also looking for a comparable tour. We can do it much cheaper by doing it yourself. The shuttle bus is almost like tendering: we have to queue through the casino to get out, and only a few guests are allowed out: as many as fit into the buses. Only the excursionists from the ship are allowed to disembark with priority. So just like tendering - just with buses instead of tender boats. The excursion buses start directly from the pier.



Wir notieren wieder den Hafenagenten. Eine vergleichbare Tour suchen wir auch heraus. Das schaffen wir im Do-it-yourself sehr viel günstiger. Der Shuttlebus ist fast schon wie tendern: wir müssen in einer langen Schlange durch das Casino uns anstellen, um rauszukommen und nur wenige Gäste dürfen raus: soviele, wie auch in die Busse passen. Nur die Ausflügler vom Schiff dürfen mit Priorität das Schiff verlassen. Also genauso wie beim Tendern - nur eben mit Bussen statt mit Tenderbooten. Die Ausflugsbusse starten direkt vom Pier.









Der Shuttle führt uns am Rande der Innenstadt zum Bahnhof bzw. Fährterminal. Mangels Cruise Terminal gibt es Verkaufsstände direkt am Zugang für den Shuttlebus. Ich bin der einzige, der es wohl zum Edinburgh Castle geschafft hat, obwohl wir gar nicht in Newhaven angelegt haben.



The shuttle takes us to the outskirts of the city center to the train station or ferry terminal. In the absence of a cruise terminal, there are sales stands directly at the entrance for the shuttle bus. I'm the only one who has made it to Edinburgh Castle, even though we didn't call in Newhaven, Scotland.

Enterprise reminds me of my rental. I need help to do the check-in online. I refuse to be picked up if we agreed: it's not raining, and it's only a 10-minute walk to the car rental. Just stupid to go. They are charming: because the tank was much empty later and the car's condition needed to be cleaner due to the previous tenant returning it late, I got a very generous discount later. Otherwise, we have less fun with the BMW. We cannot connect our TomTom to the iPhone without a BMW app. And I need to register as a BMW customer to use the BMW app. Luckily the car is old enough to have a USB-A port: I forgot my USB-C cable.



Ich werde von Enterprise an meine Anmietung erinnert. Den Check-In kann ich online nicht machen. Ich verzichte darauf abgeholt zu werden, ob wir es vereinbart haben: es regnet nicht und es sind nur 10 Minuten zu Fuß bis zur Autovermietung. Nur blöd zu gehen. Sie sind sehr nett: weil später der Tank doch sehr viel leerer war und auch der Zustand des Autos wegen verspäteter Rückgabe des Vormieters nicht so sauber war, bekomme ich später einen sehr großzügigen Rabatt. Ansonsten haben wir mit dem BMW weniger Spaß. Wir können ohne BMW App unser TomTom auf dem iPhone nicht anschließen. Und ohne Registrierung als BMW Kunde, kann ich die BMW App nicht in Betrieb nehmen. Zum Glück ist das Auto so alt, dass es ein USB-A-Anschluss hat: ich habe mein USB-C-Kabel nämlich an Bord vergessen.

Unser Ziel Snowdonia National Park. Snowdonia ist der höchste Berg in England und Wales. Wir hatten hier Pech: die Fremdenführerin hat uns kurzfristig abgesagt und entgegen ihres Versprechens keine Tour mit uns erarbeitet. Kurzfristig konnten wir keinen Ersatz finden. So haben wir klassich Bücher heruntergeladen und gelesen. Der Weg ist das Ziel und so machen wir eine Rundfahrt. Wir müssen zunächst auf das "Festland" (= Hauptinsel). Nur wenige Kilometer nach der Autobahn sind wir schon begeistert.



Our destination is Snowdonia National Park. Snowdonia is the highest mountain in England and Wales. We were unlucky here: the tour guide canceled us at short notice and, contrary to her promise, did not work out a tour with us. We needed help finding a replacement at short notice. So we used to download and read classic books. The way is the goal, and so we make a tour. First, we must go to the "mainland" (= main island). Only a few kilometers after the motorway, we are already excited.

Llanberis is one of the main tourist resorts in the National Park. I would have liked to have taken the Snowdon mountain railways without a guide, but we can no longer get tickets for this after we receive the final cancellation. The other routes could be more appealing. The closer you are to the town center, the more expensive the parking lot. If we have to pay a lot for parking, it must be worth it: we visit the ruins of Dolbardarn Castle, which lie in the forest. We drive briefly to the north shore of Llyn Padarn. But there is too much hustle and bustle for us.



Llanberis ist einer Haupttouristenorte im Nationalpark. Ohne Führerin hätte ich ja gerne die Fahrt mit der Snowdon Bergbahn gemacht, aber hierfür bekommen wir keine Karten mehr, nachdem wir die endgültige Absage kam. Die anderen Bahnen finde ich nicht so reizvoll. Je näher man in der Ortsmitte ist, desto teurer der Parkplatz. Wenn wir schon fürs Parken heftig zahlen müssen, dann muss es sich lohnen: wir besuchen die Ruinen von der Burg Dolbardarn, die im Wald drin liegen. Kurz fahren wir noch zum Nordufer des Llyn Padarn. Aber dort ist uns zu viel Trubel.

Wir fahren weiter und es ist dann genauso, wie wir uns das vorgestellt haben.

Der Name Llewelyn zieht mich magisch an: Ich mag den alten Q aus James Bond 007, der von Desmond Llewelyn dargestellt wurde. Und eine E-Kollegin hieß so und hat mir beigebracht, wie man das Ll in Walisisch korrekt auspricht. ANGEBLICH soll man ab 11:30 Uhr im Prince Llewelyn von der Dinner-Karte bestellen dürfen. Aber das trifft leider nicht zu. Typisch britisch: man sucht sich einen Tisch, legt seine Sachen ab, stellt sich an der Theke an und bestellt und bezahlt dort. Oder man bestellt und bezahlt alles über die App. Ich bestelle den Lamm und Minz-Burger. Ich schmecke die Minze nicht raus und bitte um Mint-Jelly. Den gibt es in diesem Lokal nicht. Das Thema Lleywelyn schließe ich für mich ab - als Lokal. Hier möchte ich keinen Kaffee mehr.



I'm drawn to the name Llewelyn: I like the old Q from James Bond 007, played by Desmond Llewelyn. And an E colleague was called that and taught me how to pronounce the ll correctly in Welsh. You should be allowed to order from the dinner menu from 11:30 hrs in the Prince Llewelyn. But unfortunately, that is not the case. Typically British: you look for a table, put your things down, stand in line at the counter, and order and pay. Or you can order and pay for everything via the app. I call it the lamb and mint burger. I can't taste the mint and ask for mint jelly. There isn't one in this restaurant. I close the topic of Lleywelyn for myself - as a local. I don't want coffee here anymore.









We should have gone to the Caffi Colwyn. Here are the dinner dishes and amiable staff, and friendly environment. They also have an excellent barista machine to enjoy an espresso. Funny: a menu for dogs.



Wir hätten ins Caffi Colwyn gehen sollen. Hier gibt es die Dinnergerichte und sehr freundliches Personal und eine nette Umgebung. Sie haben auch eine schöne Barista-Maschine, um einen Espresso zu genießen. Lustig: eine Speisekarte für Hunde.









Auf einen weiteren Stopp verzichten wir und schließen den Kreis und fahren zurück. Ein schöner Tag rund um den Snowdonia Nationalpark.

Others may see moving as "normal": pack, move, unpack. But I'm a logistician. And here, two worlds collide. We would have liked to move "slowly" step by step in an orderly framework. So I asked for ten laundry bags so that, for example, we could pack the entire contents of a drawer in a bag and unpack it straight into the next drawer. When we moved, I asked them to give us the new hangers with hooks so we could hang the things directly on the moving truck, but we needed something else. The moving truck arrives but needs new vital cards. The mover has the cabin unlocked. The receptionist wants to hand out the new ship cards when I hand in the old ones. So Bruno stays in the new suite to open it for me again while I return to our old stateroom with the hangers to hang everything up. After that, I go back to the reception to queue and wait. There I found out our new pearl was already here and had the new boarding pass given.



Andere mögen Umzug als "normal" empfinden: einpacken, umziehen, auspacken. Ich bin aber Logistiker. Und hier stoßen zwei Welten aufeinander. Wir hätten gerne "langsam" Schritt für Schritt in einem geordneten Rahmen umzugezogen. So habe ich um zehn Wäschesäcke gebeten, damit wir beispielsweise einen Schubladeninhalt komplett in eine Tüte packen und direkt in die nächste Schublade wieder auspacken. Ich habe darum gebeten, dass sie beim Umzug uns zunächst die neuen Kleiderbügel mit Haken geben, damit wir die Sachen direkt auf den Umzugswagen hängen können, aber das klappt leider alles nicht. Der Umzugswagen kommt, aber ohne neue Schlüsselkarten. Der Umzugshelfer lässt die Kabine aufschließen. Die Rezeption will die neuen Schlüsselkarten erst rausrücken, wenn ich die alten abgebe. Also bleibt Bruno in der neuen Kabine, damit er mir wieder aufmachen kann, während ich mit Kleiderbügel wieder in unsere alte Kabine gehe, um alles umzuhängen. Danach gehe ich mal wieder zur Rezeption, um mich anzustellen und zu warten. Dort erfahre ich dann, dass unsere neue Perle bereits hier war und sich die neue Bordkarten hat geben lassen.





Unsere neue Perle ist Wai. Man sieht schon: das sind neue Thermostate, die noch nicht vergilbt sind und es ist eine andere Zufuhr von der Decke. Einziger Nachteil: eine Steckdose am Tisch gibt es nur als Eurostecker mit 230 V. Zum Glück haben wir immer beides dabei. Wir würden ja gerne unsere Kabinenstewards unterstützen: das ist so ähnlich wie bei den Haustürverkauf von selbstgebackenen Keksen der amerikanischen Pfadfinder... aber da ist wirklich nichts dabei, was wir brauchen: Bademäntel haben wir bereits von Princess und Handtücher von NCL und HAL (alles gekauft!!!). Wir entscheiden uns gegen den Verkauf und geben das Geld lieber direkt an unsere beiden Stewards. Auch wenn sie dadurch leider keine zusätzliche Belohnung erhalten.



Our new pearl is Wai. As you can see, these new thermostats have yet to be yellowed, and it's a different supply from the ceiling. The only disadvantage: a socket at the table is only available as a 230 V Euro plug. Luckily we always have both with us. We'd love to support our cabin stewards: it's like American Boy Scouts selling home-baked cookies doorstep... but there isn't anything we need: we already have bathrobes from Princess and towels from NCL and HAL (all bought!!! We have decided against the sale and prefer to give the money directly to our two stewards. Unfortunately, they don't get any additional rewards as a result.









After we didn't get a table again in Fahrenheit 555° as a walk-in, we returned to the Normandie Restaurant. My luck: we experience excellent service with the pepper mill! And there's the cream of chicken soup. It's so delicious that I'd rather eat it again instead of a main course: unfortunately, it's all too sweet and sticky for me. Add some jambalaya, and you're good.



Nach dem wir wieder im Fahrenheit 555° als Walk-Ins keinen Tisch bekommen haben, gehen wir wieder ins Normandie Restaurant. Mein Glück: wir erleben einen tollen Service mit Pfeffermühle! Und es gibt Geflügelcremesuppe. Die ist so lecker, dass ich lieber nochmals esse, statt eines Hauptgerichts: mir ist das leider alles zu süß und klebrig. Dazu noch ein wenig Jambalaya und alles ist gut.

Auf dem Weg zum Theater gönnen wir uns einen Espresso und bleiben vor dem Red Frog Pub sitzen und hören der Musik zu. Das ist so wie in Deutschland, dass niemand zugeben würde, dass man deutsche Schlager hört, aber alle mitsingen können, wenn die Musik läuft. So ähnlich ist es hier auch: es laufen beispielsweise Lieder von The Carpenters. Ich singe lieber vor der Tür mit, bevor mich andere entdecken, dass ich fast alle Stücke mitsingen kann...



On the way to the theater, we treat ourselves to espresso, sit in front of the Red Frog Pub, and listen to music. It's like in Germany nobody would admit that you hear German hits, but everyone can sing along when the music is on. It's similar here: songs by The Carpenters are playing, for example. I prefer to sing along in front of the door before others discover I can sing along to almost all the pieces...

It's going into the production show 80's Pop to the Max. We're early there, but the only pre-show fun we get is selling drinks. Otherwise, the show was much fun: it was like a fountain of youth for me. I didn't have to ask for a list of songs: all the tracks I like to listen to are all on the iPhone anyway.



Es geht in die Production-Show 80's Pop to the Max. Wir sind schon früh da, aber Pre-Show-Fun erleben wir nur als Verkauf von Getränken. Ansonsten macht die Show sehr viel Spaß: für mich war es wie ein Jungbrunnen. Ich musste nicht nach einer Liederliste fragen: alle Stücke, die ich hören mag, sind eh alle auf dem iPhone.
